We’re in Westport, NY part one, second part is Salisbury, VT

Too many pictures this week so we broke our blog into two parts, this is when we were in NY, the second part is when we were in Vermont.

September 29, 3013                                                                                                                    Lorraine’s report

Hello once more from our rig, parked at Lake Dunmore's Kampersville RV Resort in Salisbury, Vermont.  Yep, we moved on down the road.  And we will be moving again tomorrow to New Hampshire.

Seems like all at once a lot of leaves are changing, from the green of these lush valley's to the browns, oranges, reds, golden color and every color in between in this beautiful land.  This is why we came this far east, to see the landscape changing from the warm green colors, to the ones that represent fall/autumn to us.  It has been really beautiful for us.

Also, we needed to fill out our map of the U.S.A. and there are 7 states left on our map.  This is a map of the good old U. S. A.  and for us to put it up on our rig, we have needed to stay at least one night in each of these states.

These are the ones we are now completing.  We have Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Delaware, West Virginia and North Dakota and we will complete all 49 states.  We have been to Hawaii, and I don't think we will be taking the rig there.

Each state is so full of wondrous things to see and do.  I can't believe we will visit all of them!!!  To me that is so unthinkable, but here we are, getting close.  I sure hope everything turns out for us, that is one big "Bucket List" completion I would like to make.

So last week was our 41st Anniversary.  Chuck booked us on a cruise out of Lake George for a "Champagne Brunch".  It was really wonderful.  All 300 or so of us and the crew met us at 11 am; they processed each and everyone one of us and we boarded the ship.

The name of the cruise was called the LAC du SAINT SACREMENT.  They had us board the boat; we were the second ones on the cruise when boarding, so we pretty much had a really good look before the rest of our traveling companions boarded  and I was able to take pictures of all the good food.

The gal took us to where we would be having our brunch which was on the second floor.  We rode the ship for the entire trip from there.   We were right above the band that greeted us as we boarded.

And, the Captain as well as the rest of the crew were there to greet us as we boarded, and again when we disembarked at the end of the cruise.  Made me feel totally good, to be helping a ship full of crew members "do their job."

Our gal made us feel very welcomed.  She then brought us drinks, and we were second in line for the Omelets Bar.  Of course they had all your favorite foods for breakfast, but not cereal.  It was very good, and we enjoyed ourselves.  Most people were all finished with the Brunch before we left on the cruise.

Lake George is pretty big and we toured the lake for two hours.  We were impressed to see all the beautiful homes, built by people who enjoy the area as much as we did.

My sister, Thelma, said Rachel Ray lives on Lake George, and while they were talking about that, there was so much noise, I wasn't able to see what house she owned.  But Chuck said he heard most homes were starting at 1.5 million and up.

They had a band that played "Happy Birthday" as well as songs for the bunch of us who had our anniversary that day.  There were at least 5-6 of us that were having our anniversary that same day.  Was totally cool to be sung that by that bunch of people.  What a neat way for us to celebrate another year!  Thanks Chuck, it was a lot of fun!

Monday we left and went on into Westport, NY.  We picked up a few things from the grounds keeper and decided to do a few of the things.  Mostly we toured a lot upper roads, and took a lot of pictures.

Wednesday we decided we should go up to Lake Placid, NY and do those things they had suggested.  So off we went.

I can not believe how far up the people go to just do the ski jump.  It goes way high and they have to take off,  jump and then find a way to land it, all the while going very fast.  It looks way to scary for me, and I wouldn't go up the slope, even though you could take the chair back down.

On the shorter ski slopes, they had a couple of people going up on the slopes, and took off,  skiing into a big Olympic pool  If you didn't do it right, I'm sure it would hurt you a whole bunch.  That was all going on that day.

Thursday we stayed home and I cleaned my closet and under the bed.  Whew, what a job, but at least now I know what I have for Christmas presents.

Friday we took off again and came here.  While we have 50 amp, sewer and water, we don't have cable TV or phone service or the internet.  I do not like to be so disconnected from the outside world.   This makes me feel we are on the skirts of being in the midst of things.  But we will leave again tomorrow!

On Friday, we  came into this area, set up and then went for a drive.  We ended up at Ben & Jerry's, you know the ice cream place.  Well, the tours they have for that store go on the week days, so we needed to do it before the weekend.  So we did.  And while the tour guide was okay, the best part was the free ice cream are finished the tour.

We had Pumpkin with some spices in it.  It was okay, but after we went and got a regular cone from the ice cream stand.  I had Chocolate Therapy and everybodies  number one favorite, Cherry Garcia; Cherry Garcia is the number one favorite in the whole USA.  At least now I know when I have ice cream, at least 10 million others also like what I like.

Yesterday we went to the Green Mountains.  Chuck put a lot of little towns in the GPS, and we followed it around.  We went to a music fest, but they wanted $$ to get into it, so we left.  We went on down to small town and they had flu shots, so I got mine.  Hope it works well for me.    From there we found a Costco for a few things we get at Costco.

Today we went to the Vermont Teddy Bear Company.  It was fun, and then on the way home we listened to the Seahawks win.   Yea!.

It's been since June 27th and I think my foot is almost healed.  Yea for me!!!  It has been 3 months healing.   I hope I can get back into shoes when it turns cold up here.  I'm hoping!

So now it's time to wish Mike a very "Happy Birthday" tomorrow,  October 1.  Then on the 6th of October, is my niece's birthday.  "Happy Birthday, Kerri!"

Until next time, be well...

Hugs,

Lorraine

9/29/13                                                                                                                                          Chuck’s report

Yes, we have finally gotten to Vermont, we’ve been on the road fulltime for 6 years and this is our first visit to this state, in fact, our first visit to the NE area of the country, motor home or not.

Last Sunday was Lorraine and my 41st anniversary and we decided to celebrate with a champagne brunch cruise on Lake George in the Adirondacks. The day started out with heavy overcast and a bit of rain but before the 2 ½ hour cruise was over the sun was shining through the clouds.

We had a good time; we were the second folks on board, escorted to our seat and even got in the omelet line without waiting. There was about 300 folks on this cruise but they did a great job of seating us, feeding us and showing us a good time. Our waitress was a college gal that they asked to come back for another weekend to help them out, a good thing for us as she was a very good waitress, helpful without getting in the way. The food was excellent and plentiful; I know we both didn’t eat again that day until later in the evening.

And the scenery was outstanding along the shore of Lake George. We did see some mansions that folks have built over the years, the captain even pointed out a few over the sound system as we passed them. One of the passengers was talking about the prices for even a normal house, more than I can afford for sure and if we had one, we wouldn’t live in it during the winter, that’s for sure.

There was a two piece band on board one deck below us but we didn’t have any problem hearing them and could see them just by walking 5 feet to the railing. They even played a song for us and we danced a bit even though we didn’t go down to the dance floor. All-in-all we had a very good day together. Thanks for 41 years together, Hon, it’s been great.

Monday was a short travel day for us, we headed to Westport, NY, on the Northeast side of the Adirondacks. We really liked the St. George area; I understand why Dan and Wanda told us we would like it. I think we will have to return someday, it’s really a nice place to visit and the folks we had contact with were very nice and helpful.

In Westport we stayed at Barber Campground, another Passport America membership park for us. They weren’t too busy, we sort of had our pick of the sites and we managed to get one of the very few that was open enough so we could get satellite reception through the trees and had 50 amp elect. We had minimal reception on our cell phone and computer reception was spotting too.

After we got set up, we headed out for a short driving visit up the coast of Lake Champlain, the dividing area between New York and Vermont. We did find the tree colors were much further along than down South, some of the places here were at peak viewing we were told.

Tuesday we headed out for a drive through the Northern area of Adirondacks, even drove through Lake Placid but we didn’t stop there too long as we figured this would have to be a day trip of its own. Boy were the tree colors nice and sharp up here, we went up in elevation from about 300’ at Westport to over 1900’ on a portion of the drive. We drove through lots of small towns but really didn’t stop and explore any of them; we were mostly on a tree leaf color trip. We drove for about 4 hours and I don’t know how many times Lorraine said “WOW, look at that hillside or tree”. She was trying to get pictures of these as we were driving and I know she took lots of pictures.

Wednesday we headed back to visit Lake Placid and decided to drive a portion of the road we had traveled the day before as the scenery was so nice. Our visit to Lake Placid was ok, we liked seeing the Olympic venues and driving around the lake itself. We both were thinking and laughing about the movie about the Jamaican Bob Sled Team when we were at that area. This is where they were back in the 1980 winter Olympics, along with the Miracle on Ice when the US hockey team beat the Russians’ during the same Olympics, we saw the ice arena too.

But once again, the highlight of this trip was the trees and all the vibrant, sharp colors. There are all shades of green, brown, yellow, orange, gold, red and all colors in-between, Lorraine has said a couple of times that she wishes she could paint the scene we are seeing. I hope the camera does it justice!

Thursday we sort of just hung around the rig, Lorraine wanted to clean out her closet and get some of her warmer clothes out as it’s getting cooler. I managed to find a couple of things to do too. Plus this was a good time to catch up on laundry, never know if we will get 50 amp, water and sewer at our next stop.
